Revolution Mill Studios has embraced 100 years of Greensboro , NC history by bringing new life to a former economic engine. The 1900-1915 Revolution Mill has the distinction of being the first modern flannel mill in the America South. By the 1930s the mill had become the largest exclusive flannel producer in the world. Operated by Cone Mills until February of 1982, Revolution Mill was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. For the ensuing twenty years, the mill was leased for manufacturing and storage purposes. In February of 2003, the mill was purchased by Revolution Studios, LLC, and a 5 million dollar renovation began on the mill to convert the facility to office space. In August of 2006, through the approval of Historic Preservation tax credits, the project gained an exponential boost in funds, and the renovation program at Revolution was expanded to a $40 million project. To date, over 200,000 square feet of the 600,000 square foot mill has been renovated and occupied by over 90 businesses. Once rehabilitation has been completed, Revolution Mill will once again serve as an economic center for the neighborhood, promoting sustainable development for the next century.
